How this tool works
Gonadal volume is approximated from the product of three orthogonal dimensions and a shape constant. For the ovary, the prolate ellipsoid constant 0.523 is standard. For the testis, validation against water-displacement volumes shows the Lambert constant 0.71 is the most accurate sonographic estimator, whereas 0.523 underestimates true testicular volume by roughly a quarter; the alternative-constant result is therefore shown for comparison. Typical adult testicular volume is about 15-25 mL, and volumes under roughly 12 mL in an adult suggest hypotrophy. Premenopausal ovarian volume is usually up to about 10 mL, and a volume above 10 mL is one Rotterdam criterion for polycystic ovarian morphology when combined with follicle counts. Marked side-to-side asymmetry should prompt correlation for atrophy of the smaller side or a mass in the larger one.
