How this tool works
The Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) system remains the most widely used radiographic scale for osteoarthritis severity in clinical research and practice. Grade assignment rests on the constellation of osteophytic lipping, joint-space narrowing, sclerosis, and deformity of the bone ends on plain radiographs. Grade 2 or higher is conventionally taken as radiographic OA. Although first popularized on AP knee films, the same descriptors are applied generically to other synovial joints.
