How this tool works
The ASIA Impairment Scale, part of the International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI), replaced the Frankel scale as the global standard for SCI severity. Completeness is defined by absence of sacral (S4–5) sensory and motor function. Grades B–D are incomplete injuries stratified by motor preservation below the neurological level. AIS E denotes recovery to normal examination after prior deficits. Frankel grades A–E are historically parallel but used different completeness rules and are less stable diagnostically.
