How this tool works

The resistive (Pourcelot) index condenses the arterial Doppler waveform into a single dimensionless number reflecting downstream vascular resistance. In native kidneys an index below roughly 0.70 is typical; higher values accompany intrinsic parenchymal disease, obstruction, and transplant dysfunction, while an index of 1.0 or more indicates absent or reversed end-diastolic flow. Thresholds are organ- and context-specific, so the number must be read against the vascular bed being examined.
