When to use it
- Suspected intussusception (and the gateway to pneumatic reduction).
- Suspected hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in the vomiting infant.
- Most paediatric abdominal pain, before any consideration of CT.
Technique
- Child-friendly environment and a parent present reduce the need for sedation.
Where it goes wrong
- A negative study in a clinically convincing case should prompt repeat imaging or escalation, not reassurance.
